[To say Crow's excited would be putting it lightly; he has all the hope that Yukio's deal with Mana helps put this strange discomfort he'd been feeling all this time whenever he was in Yukio's presence aside. So it's with more than a bit of eagerness that he pulls up in the mansion's driveway with a screeching skid and bellows--]
Hey, Yukio! I'm back!
no subject
Now it was rather nice.
As Crow screeches into the driveway, he stands up and heads in the whalefish's direction, still more than a little wary. What if it wasn't his monster? What if it was just him?]
And leaving skidmarks everywhere too. How do you feel?
[Yukio's ... still farily humanoid, but it's also obvious he isn't a vampire anymore. Not with finned ears, more delicate fins along his arms and even his tail (which looks a bit more ray-like than batlike these days), a coat of brightly colored blue and yellow and orange scales easily seen where cloth doesn't cover. Webbed fingers.
Definitely not a night-creature anymore. When he speaks again his tone is a touch plaintive.]
... And how the hell do you stand the air being so dry all the time?
no subject
I get wet. A lot. Usually at the lake.
[But... that irritated weight at the back of his mind whenever he was around Yukio is gone. It's such a relief, to be able to speak face to face with his friend without having to hold himself back from starting a fight.
Crow breaks out into a broad smile, stepping forward to sweep Yukio into a big, but brief, hug.]
But I feel great! I'm glad it worked!
no subject
It doesn't come. Not when he expects it to, leading to a slow, anxious twitch of finned ray-tail. The grin is almost reassuring. It worked? It worked and-- and he's being hugged!!
Normally Yukio would struggle, or simply break it off when politeness has been reached. He didn't much like physical contact. But it had been months since his only friend could even tolerate his presence without being grumpy about it and the long-standing fear that it was him and not being a vampire was slow to melt. But it worked. It wasn't him. It wasn't him.]
That's .. that's good. I'm glad too.
[Suspiciously quiet, that. But Yukio was good at reserved. Very good. The only sign that it's something more is the way he briefly returns the hug, tight and viselike before he suddenly lets go, pushing his glasses back up his nose. They still fit at least. Sorry, Crow. It's far more of a relief than is easy to tell just by looking at him.]
So this lake thing!
[EVERYTHING IS NORMAL. Ignore the unsteady waver of his voice, please. He had very few friends. Being loathed by one of the very few he had, had cut him far more than he'd ever admit.]
no subject
He gives the guy as much time as he needs, doesn't complain when Yukio practically squeezes the breath out of his lungs like he normally would.
When Yukio lets go, Crow gives him a little space before heartily clapping Yukio on the shoulder, not directly acknowledging his awareness of Yukio's relief -- don't worry Yukio, your secret is safe with him -- but also indirectly showing support.]
You wanna take the bike? It'll be faster than walking.
[Of course it will be, much faster even, especially with the way Crow rides.]
no subject
Still it was the fastest way to travel now that he couldn't fly. He missed that rather acutely already.]
... I .. suppose.
[Behold his reluctance! It's not really Crow exactly, it's the death machine crotch rocket part he was leery of. But he didn't die last time.. and sure he was dead when he got on the bike to begin with, but ...
No, he made it just fine before, he'll manage this time too.]
Though are all of your new bits going to be safe to touch or should I go get some reinforced clothes?
[He himself was fairly sure he had venomous spines but he could lay those flat and hide them pretty well.]
laughing at death machine crotch rocket omg
He laughs lightly -- no sarcasm or disgust lining his voice like it used to -- gesturing openly with both hands.]
Pretty sure they're venomous.
[Just based on the fact the rest of his pointy bits are. But he quickly adds--]
But I can move 'em outta the way.
[Crow practially twirls around to show Yukio, the iridiscent spines undulating before he flattens them vertically against his back, sharp ends pointing upwards. See?]
no subject
[But he didn't have anywhere near as many, and his were more like those of a lionfish, easily slicked down and tucked under clothes. He watches anyway as Crow works on eliminating one of MANY DANGERS associated with that bike.
But the big problem was gone. So it had to be safe enough. Crow hadn't died yet because of this thing. Besides, it was ...strangely harder to hang onto his usual somber mood. Maybe it was Crow being infectious somehow, with that fancy twirl and good mood. Maybe it was something inherent to being a mer. Either way..
Either way. The sun was out, a lake was waiting and for the first time in months he didn't have to wonder if something was wrong with him.]
Looks good. Just don't pop those out while we're on the road, alright?
no subject
Relax, relax. I'm an expert.
[He got his driver's license and everything, and he's yet to stab anyone with his spines. Accidentally, anyway; he's stabbed a couple of people on purpose.]
It'll be fine!
[Crow's so excited about all this that he doesn't even wanna go back in the house to dump his sling bag before they head out. Instead, he turns on his heel and leads the way to his bike, swinging a leg over the seat and wrapping his tail around his waist so it's mostly out of the way. Waving Yukio over, he adds--]
You remember what to do, yeah?
no subject
[And he still sounds dubious about this, but he DID remember. He didn't die that time either. Sure he'd been dead anyway, but ... more dead. Which means when Yukio follows Crow and then waits for the whaleman to actually get on, he does seem to not have been lying through his teeth; once the tail's tucked out of the way he settles behind Crow, his own stingray-ish tail carefully tucked upward instead to prevent any tire mishaps.]
Just try to keep it somewhere below the speed of sound, alright?
[It is intended to be a joke, but the silence immediately afterwards from behind Crow suggests Yukio is suddenly worried that it might actually be POSSIBLE to go that fast and now that he SAID IT..]
no subject
Can't go that fast with these slow bikes! But back home?
[He grins wildly as he revvs his motorbike's engine. Blackbird could go at least twice the speed of this motorbike!]
No guarantees!
[And with that, he takes off without warning! Well, no warning other than the earlier motorcycle roaring. Out of respect for their friendship, Crow does ratchet the speed down a notch, but to someone who's not a speed demon, it probably doesn't feel any different.]
